About The Stickland Family
The Stickland family in Australia started in Ballarat in 1851 with brothers Nathaniel
and Henry John, both arriving from Portisham in Dorset around that era. Most family
members remained in Ballarat but 3 sons and 1 daughter of Henry moved to Western
Australia in the 1890's. Moses and Thomas Henry became miners and worked the fields
of Kalgoorlie and Cue, residing in Cue for some time before moving to the city of
Fremantle. The daughter Mary Ellen married William Pearse Caddy in Perth and lived
for a time in Cue and then moved to Fremantle. Thomas Henry joined the military in
Cue at the start of WW1 and was killed in action in France. George Stanley who is the
grandfather of my deceased husband Ray, married in Perth and lived and died in
Subiaco.
